EMBRACING CHANGE IN LIFE AND WORK
As we see the clocks change to Summer Time and daylight stretching longer by the day, a new cycle in Nature brings us new perspectives on our life and work at the studio. We have used the first three months of the year to set ourselves up for the rest of 2024. We have focused on training and mentoring, as well as researching new products and technologies for construction. We have welcomed collaborations with other professionals in our line of work. Change is in the air, and we are embracing the changing times ahead. Excitement and fear are closely related. The difference is not how we feel but how we choose to experience and interpret these emotions. We will be sharing more about this in the coming months.

WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE MENTORING
At Inhabitat, we believe in the power of mentorship. Several of our team members are participating in Women in Architecture’s annual mentoring scheme as both mentors and mentees. This initiative has been a great success, with the team developing a focus on setting clear goals through WIA mentoring and workshops. We believe that clear goals are the foundation of any successful project, whether it’s a residential design or a commercial development. We’d like to share some crucial steps for successful goal-setting from the mentoring program. We begin with self-reflection to identify the aspects that bring joy and satisfaction to personal and professional life. It’s important to initially focus on the area you can control. Here are some key pointers to keep in mind:1. Choose your goals 2. Visually map your goals 3. Prioritise and focus 4. Find resources and support 5. Break down your goals 6. Measure success 7. Celebrate success Interestingly, the goal setting structure for us as working professionals can also apply to our clients’ projects. There is a strong parallel which we recognise and have been using for our architecture projects. It is very reassuring to draw from our work now back to our personal and professional life and vice versa. After all, we are holistic beings and our work and life experiences feed constantly from each other.
PROJECT OF THE MONTH
Uncovering the potential of a high-end property: The Moorings, Gerrards Cross
This project is in collaboration with Raji Kaur Khaira, a luxury real estate agent. Raji is a partner at the prestigious Luxury Property Partnership Ltd. She approached us to support her strategise over a site located in Gerards Cross, looking to showcase its possibilities to potential buyers. To achieve this goal, we first identified relevant policies and planning developments allowed on and around the site. This helped us create a design that restores the house’s original 1920s style while incorporating modern interiors and extensions. We managed to provide a thoughtful design that renovates the current property completely without demolition. We then produced a 3D model of our design to provide potential buyers with interior and exterior visuals. This allows them to envision how the property could work with their lifestyle. We’re delighted to say that this property has gained a lot of interest, and we’re excited about the possibility of working with future owners to help them create a home they will love!
