There is nothing more stimulating to us than completing a building project where the clients feel they have been at the heart of the design project and that we have co-created the spaces they will play, work and live in. The best result is a building emerging as a reflection of their principles and aspiration, in harmony with nature in the shape of a place to inhabit.

Derek began his architectural career studying and working in Bristol before moving out to London to specialise in healthcare building design. This enabled him to further develop his passion for complex and thoughtful design through a more anthropological approach to architecture. Later he joined the University of Reading as an in-house design architect which lead to him gaining valuable experience running complex educational projects. In the late 90’s he established The AED Practice working on wide range of projects from one-off houses in the countryside to university jobs with historic, and often highly sensitive contexts. As an experienced architect, and RIBA Charted Architect, he is a very valuable collaborator at Inhabitat.
Never without a project on the go, he spends much of his spare time designing and working on his house and garden near the seaside.
